Here we give a selection of some unusual Wills that have been made. We hope these don’t give you too many ideas and that you don’t get carried away when making your own Will.
FOOTBALL
Amateur footballer Sid Trickett’s Will in 1982 stipulated that his ashes be scattered at the Torrington Football Club goalmouth where he headed eight goals in 1948.
DENTAL NURSE
Dentist Philip Grundy in 1974, left dental nurse Amelia White £181,000 on condition that she didn’t go out with men or wear make up or jewellery for five years.
CIGARS
Samuel Bratt whose wife would not let him smoke, left her in 1960 the sum of £330,000 on condition that she smoked five cigars a day.
EGG TIMER
Tony Gribble in 1983 requested that his ashes be placed inside an egg timer “so that I shall continue to be of use after my death”
KNICKERS
The Rev. John Gwyon who killed himself in 1929, left almost £10,000 in trust to buy knickers for local boys.
REMARRIAGE
Heinrich Heine left his estate to his wife on condition that she remarries so “there will be at least one man to regret my death”
LAVATORIES
In 1990 a lady left £100,000 to the King George Hospital for the “expansion, improvement and maintenance of its lavatories”.
JESUS
Ernest Digweed in 1977 left £26,000 to Jesus provided it could be proved that his identity could be established.
HAMLET
Juan Potomachi in 1955 left £30,000 to the Teatro Dramatico Theatre provided his skull could be used in Hamlet.
VSE ZENE
The shortest Will in the world was written in 1967 which consisted of the words “Vse zene”. It meant (Everything to my wife).
VAMPIRES
Mr. Harold West, a believer in Vampires, in 1972 left very clear instructions as to what to do with his body including “My doctor is to drive a steel stake through my heart to make sure that I am properly dead”.
BINGO
Mrs. Amy Bachman left in 1959 over $600,000 to her dog “Bingo” but only $1 to her husband and to her son, nothing at all.
DRUNK
David Davis in 1788 left his wife five shillings to “enable her to get drunk for the last time at my expense”
AIRLINE PILOT
Hensley Nankivell requested in 1987 that any relative wanting to benefit from his estate of £400,000 must first train as an airline pilot.
THANKS
Tom Goodson in 1983 requested his relatives give to everyone who attended his funeral an envelope containing a one pound note with the words written on it “Have a smoke, crack a joke. Thanks for coming”.
