NHS Pays £8.8 Million For Failure To Diagnose A Broken Back

Doctors are not invincible and will sometimes make errors. However, if they are seen as negligent then there should be compensation available. A man with a broken back sought and was awarded compensation of millions of pounds when it was found that hospital doctors didn’t notice that his back was broken.

The man fell down some stairs and went to hospital, no spinal damage was noticed by medical staff. This led to a delay in the right treatment and as a consequence he was left paralysed from the chest down, he is now dependent on a wheelchair and cannot manage without constant care and will not recover.

The High Court heard the case details and approved the negotiated settlement between the NHS trust and the man’s specialist solicitors where the hospital had admitted it’s liability. The figure agreed on was £8.8 million.
